On Saturday 22nd May, the children from Glengarry Shinty Club began their P5 & under
Glen Albyn league campaign at Drumnadrochit, this age group was more suited to the
Glengarry side, who with the addition of P7 David Rodgers, held their own in the
P7 & under comp. to finish third overall against much older, bigger and experienced
teams.
With P5 & under Player of the Year, Mungo Blakey, taking over Captaincy of the team,
he led from example, with a positional shuffle, Mungo was moved from Defence to Midfield
where he pushed the team forward to go all out for victory. Fergus Fraser taking
Mungo's place in defence along side Stuart 'the Brick' MacArthur, who have formed
a formidable defensive partnership, along with Lewis Dempster in goals.
With Megan Stewart assuming the half forward role and feeding the ball through to
Grant 'Postie' MacCallum up front, the Garry were looking in great shape, P2 Cameron
Bremner was replacing Megan throughout the games and it certainly looks like the
Garry have found a real star for the future in that position, Cameron scoring, undoubtably,
the goal of the tournament in our win against Glenurquhart.
In the first week on competition, the Garry Yellow's played 4 games, winning 3 and
losing 1 to Balnain, who look fairly strong.
The Garry Green's also made their debut
in the P5 & under league, slightly younger than the yellow's in that P2's Ronan Blakey
and Rhian Dempster made impressive debuts in the Glen Albyn League. Ben Johnstone
captained the Green's and also led by example with his team. Huge improvements from
all the Green's with Captain Ben & Andrew Wilson really developing in to great players,
who will be pushing their way in to the Yellow's squad soon.
The Green's were defeated
in each of their games, but it is a massive learning curve for them and the game
experience will add to their development.
After the tournament, the Invergarry Primary Children took part in a 4 mile sponsored
walk to raise money for the Primary School, the picture attached shows a few of the
children making a £50 donation from the Shinty Club to Mrs Strachan, Headmistress
of IPS.
LOVAT V GLENGARRY
North Division 2
Saturday 19th June 2010
This fixture was played on Saturday evening in Kiltarlity, due to the MacTavish Cup Final earlier in the day.
From the start both sides were evenly matched with good end to end shinty. The Garry thought they had broken the deadlock in the 14th minute with Dee Dee Cameron fired home from 15metres, unfortunately the referee pulled the play back instead of playing the advantage for a foul on Cameron.
Lovat scored, when Davison broke free of the Garry defence and scored from close in. The Garry now upped the pace but the Garry forwards were tending to overplay the ball allowing the Lovat defence to mark them out of shooting chances.
Half time 1-
The Garry made some personnel and tactical changes in the 2nd half and this paid
off almost immediately when Scott Johnstone fired home from 20 metres to level the
game. The Garry were now well on top and they were looking much sharper in front
of goal. In the 62nd minute, Stuart Gregory split the Lovat defence open with a good
ball to the unmarked Matthew Clarke who dispatched the ball smartly in to the net
to put the Garry 1-
Overall a good performance with everyone playing their part. This week its Beauly at Craigard at 2.30pm
Badenoch & Strathspey v Glengarry
WCA Camanachd Cup Semi-
Sunday 20th June 2010
The Garry Girls were once again understrenght due to injuries and work commitments, despite this, they took a firm grip on the game from start to finish. The first half saw the Garry go close on several occasions with keeper mcgregor in B & s goal being kept busy and under constant pressure from the Garry forwards, who were guilty of squandering chances, despite playing good shinty. The Garry Centre Line and Defence, despite several players not being 100% fit were in excellent form, giving B & s a hard time and forcing them to shoot from far out and not troubling the Garry Keeper Elaine Cameron at all.
Half Time 0-
The Garry kept up the pace in the 2nd half and the wood work saved b & x twice. The B & s defence was standing firm and as the game wore on the Garry support began to worry that despite all the Garry Pressure, b & s might break away and score.
As this was a cup semi final, it had to be played to a finish and the second half
ended goal-
The Garry Girls showed that they are a determinded 7 fit side and despite the hot
day, took extra time in their stride, starting strongly and getting the all important
opener in the 3rd minute of extra time when an Annie Butterworth pass picked out
Karen Cameron whose shot from the wing eluded the B & s keeper to put the Garry Girls

In the 2nd half of extra time, Lucy McNulty put the Garry further ahead when she
scored from close in. With this lead and minutes to go, the Garry immediately withdrew
Beth MacDonald, who had been outstanding for the Garry despite playing with a bad
foot injury. Before the re-

A great display by the Girls, who all played well with the youngsters outstanding for their age, despite playing against much bigger players. A fully deserved win, in a game that would of perhaps never of needed extra time had all the Garry forwards been available for this match.
