Glengarry Singers Meeting

30th August 2010

Many thanks to everyone who attended the meeting, including several apologies - it was very positive and productive.

Taking into account singing experience, peoples objectives and expected commitment, the following notes represent the consensus.

1. We would like it to be a Community singing group; open to all i.e. no auditions.  Initially, the group will take the form of a regular sing-along with a future objective to perform at local events.

2. No music genre has been excluded indeed variety would be welcomed including show songs, folk songs, pop, old-favourites, gaelic and traditional songs. Some singers would welcome the challenge of harmony singing too.

3. Sessions will last about 90 minutes and be held weekly following school timetable as this was generally felt to be more suitable for everyone. Invergarry school has offered the use of the general purpose room and the first session is planned for Monday 6th September at 7:30pm.

4.  The group will operate on a casual basis until Christmas whilst (hopefully) attendance levels grow. A more formal approach to membership may then be necessary. Initially subscriptions will be £1.00 per week. (Apologies to Karen please on 01809 501263.)

In addition:

Your personal music libraries may contain suitable material - all ideas and resources welcome.

There will be a short break during the session for which you may wish to bring your own refreshments.

The more the merrier - please put the word out to your friends and neighbours. (You don’t have to be able to read music to sing.)
